Wisconsin Coastal Management Program Seeking Project
Proposals for $1.5 Million in Grant Funds
Governor Jim Doyle has proclaimed September as Coastal
Awareness month in Wisconsin to encourage a heightened
appreciation of Wisconsin's 820 miles of coastline along
Lakes Michigan and Superior.
"The Great Lakes are big part of what makes life
great in Wisconsin," Governor Doyle said. "Lake
Michigan and Lake Superior provide recreational and commercial
opportunities to our residents, and it is critical that
we protect their coasts to ensure that our children and
grandchildren can enjoy the same natural beauty and resources
as we do today."
To carry out the Governor's proclamation, the Wisconsin
Coastal Management Program (WCMP) and local partners throughout
the state will conduct a variety of coastal enhancement
and preservation activities throughout September. A complete
list of these activities is available on the WCMP's Web
site at http://coastal.wisconsin.gov.
