The UW-Extension-Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center Office, Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute and Wisconsin Coastal Management announce that Lake Superior Pathfinders: Empowering People to Take Action Toward a Sustainable Lake Community program will be offered again this year. The youth program is open to all high school students (as of fall 2005) there are three sessions and each runs for one week. The three sessions will be July 17-23, July 24-30 and July 31-August 6.

Lake Superior Pathfinders offers participants an opportunity to learn more about their personal leadership style/capabilities, experientially immerse themselves in Lake Superiorís critical natural resource issues, and discover how to utilize their skills to take actions in their own communities. Issues such as toxins and bioaccumulation, habitat change and impairments, invasive species, sustainability, and integrating natural resource values in economic development will be learned in the field.

Educators and experts will facilitate these experiences through low/high ropes courses, discussion groups in beautiful settings, and on the water by snorkeling, sea kayaking to sand caves, camping and more!

The week-long program is $125, with financial aid available to qualified youth. All program fees cover room and board, materials, instruction, and equipment costs. There is also an option to earn one undergraduate credit in Environmental Leadership. This would be a great addition to your transcript. The cost of one undergraduate credit is $285.
