Milwaukee Program Director

The Milwaukee Program Director is responsible for implementing the Conservation Plan, an acquisition program to reduce future flooding in a four county area by acquiring key properties.The position involves negotiating a high volume of real estate transactions, managing a small staff and real estate service providers, traveling frequently in the Milwaukee area and working one to two nights per week to accommodate landowner schedules and local government meetings.The Milwaukee Program Director will be responsible for generating a high volume of real estate transactions for conservation. The work is in collaboration with a team of professionals within the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, outside contract real estate service providers and The Conservation Fundís staff.

 

Responsibilities include the following:

         Administer the Conservation Plan project in collaboration with the Midwest Director of The Conservation Fund.

         Initiate, direct, and complete land acquisitions of fee simple and conservation easements in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, and Washington Counties for the Conservation Plan on behalf of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD).

         Coordinate all due diligence (appraisals, surveys, title work, GIS databases and environmental hazard review).

         Assist MMSD in developing grant proposals to fund acquisitions.

         Develop and maintain relationships with key government resource agencies, local land trusts, as well as conservation, economic development and non-profit organizations in the region.

         Assist The Conservation Fund with developing a reputation for excellence in Milwaukee by cultivating private sector partners.

         Supervise office staff including the Communications Coordinator, Baseline intern, Paralegal and Field Representative.

         Develop future projects in collaboration with MMSD, other sewerage districts and the Wisconsin DNR.

 

Qualifications include the following:

         At least 2 years of land acquisition/real estate experience

         Strong negotiation skills

         A demonstrated commitment to land conservation.

         Strong oral and written communication skills.

         Proven ability to conceive, plan, and implement programs.

         Willingness to travel extensively in the four counties

         Ability to work effectively as part of the Conservation Plan team.

         Ability to work nights as needed.

         Commitment to be in Milwaukee 4-5 days per week.
