Carp Invasion of Great Lakes Possible

A manager with the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation says we're just one power failure away from a devestating invasion of Asian Carp in the Great Lakes.
Geoff Peach says an electric barrier in the Chicago area is the only thing keeping millions of Asian Carp from making their way up the Mississippi River into Lake Michigan.
Peach says the Asian Carp were being raised in captivity but flooding allowed them to escape.
He says invasive species are not new to the Great Lakes but he says Asian Carp grow to about one metre long, weigh as much as 100 pounds and eat half of their body weight in a day.
He says their impact on the Great Lakes would be devastating and he believes it's only a matter of time before they get through that electric barrier.
