The Controlling Board has approved a federal grant to
support erosion control on Lake Erie's coast. The Ohio
Department of Natural Resources will receive a $100,000
boost for programs that monitor coastal recession from
the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration.
The program studies erosion rates to predict future losses
and educate the public about erosion and flooding.
Rep. Chris Redfern, D-Catawba Island, who announced the
action, said he appreciates the enormous impact of erosion
on those that live around Lake Erie.
"When we lose coastline, we can suffer an enormous
economic hit," he said. "The elements will always
put our coastal property, businesses and economy at risk."
"I applaud the ODNR and the NOAA for their efforts
to curb the risks of coastal erosion and educate us all
about it."
