Grant will help restore Grand River
watershed

The Grand River watershed will benefit from a $1 million
grant from the North American Wetlands Conservation Act
and $2 million in matching funds to protect and restore
more than 1,700 acres of critical wetlands and habitat
in Northeast Ohio.
More than 3 million people live within 35 miles of the
Grand River, where agriculture and urban development have
drained wetlands, fragmented forests, eroded stream banks,
increased nutrient loading and impacted fish and wildlife,
said Duck Unlimited officials.
"A diverse array of migratory bird habitats will
be restored and protected," said Heather Braun, DU
regional biologist. "Hundreds of species of wildlife
will benefit from the wetland and upland habitats conserved
through this project."
Partners in this project are DU, the Geauga Parks District,
Grand River Partners Inc., the Nature Conservancy, Cleveland
Museum of Natural History, Ohio Division of Wildlife,
Ashtabula Soil and Water Conservation District and the
Western Reserve Chapter of Pheasants Forever.
