Stupak, Rogers continue disagreement over Great Lakes policy
Associated Press
Posted on woodtv.com July 26, 2005

WASHINGTON Congressmen Bart Stupak and Mike Rogers continued their ongoing disagreement over how best to protect the future of the Great Lakes.

Rogers -- a Republican from Brighton -- tried to win approval for a measure that would have urged that management authority over the Great Lakes be given to eight governors and two Canadian premiers around the Great Lakes.

Rogers says he doesn't want decisions about the Great Lakes to be made by the federal government.

But his measure failed in the Foreign Relations Authorization Act last week after Stupak -- a Democrat from Menominee -- argued it would undermine current protections in place for the Great Lakes.
