OK all you couch potatoes out there — get up and get outdoor this weekend!
Across Michigan this is “Free Fishing Weekend” when no license is required for a whole lot of family fun. In addition, this also is the Department of Natural Resources’ “Go-Get Outdoors” weekend, where families are encouraged to explore the wonderful natural resources the state has to offer.
“Fishing is a great way to connect with nature, whether you enjoy the solitude of a wooded stream or a day on a lake or pier with family and friends,” said Department of Natural Resources Director Rebecca Humphries. “I encourage all Michiganians to get out and try ‘casting a line’ and discover the many rewards that Michigan fishing has to offer.”
We couldn’t agree more. From our perspective there are very few things that can compare in enjoyment of being fishing. It matters little whether successful or not — the joy of standing knee-high in a cool stream casting into a crystal clear Michigan stream is paradise in our minds.
Being able to share that experience with others, through a weekend such as this, makes that experience even more enjoyable.
With more than 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, 11,037 inland lakes and more than 36,000 miles of rivers and streams, why not get out this weekend and experience for yourself the peace and tranquility a day on the water can provide?
