Eco-labeling:
Consumers Union has gone behind the scenes to evaluate
the credibility of more than 50 eco-labeling programs
for food and wood products. The group's new Web site http://www.eco-labels.org
gives info on sponsorship, conflicts of interest, clarity,
environmental significance, and more.
Industry's
connection to scientists and nonprofits: The Center
for Science in the Public Interest has posted on the Internet
a database of over 1,100 professors and scientists who
consult for or have other affiliations with chemical,
gas, oil, food, drug, and other companies. http://www.cspinet.org/integrity/search.html
The web site also provides partial information about
nonprofit and professional organizations that receive
industry funding. http://www.cspinet.org/integrity/corp_funding.html
Both parts of the database will be regularly expanded
in the future.
