It is Wetlands Year! This
collection of wetland resources is the highlight
of the Great Lakes Aquatic Habitat Network and Fund
(GLAHNF) wetlands campaign, C.P.R. for Wetlands:
Conserve, Protect, and Restore - Breathing new life
into our sense of place. You will find resources
to help protect wetlands in your local community,
including a community involvement fact sheet, a
wetlands education brochure, a summary of wetland
protection regulations in the Great Lakes Basin,
Islands of Success: Stories of Successful Wetland
Projects from the Field, a wetland edition of the
Great Lakes Aquatic Habitat News, a sample press
release, and a reply form to let us know if and
how you will use these materials.
Not
Only for Wetlands!
The
quality of water in the Great Lakes region, including
lakes, streams, and drinking water, is dependent
on the integrity of our wetland resources. The health
of wetlands across the Great Lakes Basin is dependent
on the ability of citizens, like you, working at
the local level to communicate the value and importance
of wetlands and to have the tools to work to protect
them.
For
those of you who regularly work on wetland issues,
we hope these resources provide you with information
and tools to help you with your work. We also hope
that even if wetlands are not your primary focus,
these materials will help you communicate the interconnection
between our water resources and the importance of
maintaining all healthy aquatic habitats.
